Denver is the capital and the largest city in Colorado. Known as "The Mile-High City", Denver has an altitude of 5,280 feet/1,600 meters and the exact "Mile High" point is marked with a gold band in the steps of the state capitol building. Denver is a city of over 579,000 people with a metropolitan area of nearly 3 million people. The Denver International Airport is located about 20 miles east of downtown.
